Falck wins a large tender for ambulance services in Spain
Beginning in the next few months, people living and travelling in the area around Barcelona will get help from ambulances and rescue officers bearing the red-white Falck logo if they have an accident or fall ill.
"We're very pleased to be rated so highly on quality in this tender and also that we were able to offer a better price than our competitors. This is the result of a very strong effort by our Spanish organisation backed by Falck's global experience,” said Falck CEO Allan Soegaard Larsen.
In 2012, Falck acquired a majority interest in a local ambulance company from Catalonian Grup VL, and the company has since provided ambulance services in an area to the north-east of Barcelona under the name Falck VL.
The three areas around Barcelona have a population of 2.1 million, and Falck will deploy 383 ambulances and patient transport vehicles as well as more than 1000 employees to provide its services.
"We look forward to assisting people and the authorities in Catalonia based on our partner's deep insight into Catalonian society and Falck's basic ambition of providing relief and assistance and helping people in emergencies feel safe and secure," said Allan Soegaard Larsen.
Falck submitted bids for six areas in the tender process – and won them all – but due to restrictions in the tender, only three contracts were awarded to Falck. The contracts can be signed after the expiry of a two weeks complaint period.
